Overview

Suez Canal University was founded in 1976 to serve the community, especially the Canal region (Port-said – Ismailia- Suez- Sinai). Prof. Dr.\ Zohair Noaman and Prof. Dr. Essmat Ezzat (May their souls rest in peace) were assigned to construct the faculty of Medicine at Suez Canal University. The first accepted class was in 1981, consisted of 49 students, and graduated on October 1987.


In June 1979, the faculty was chosen with other ten institutes in the International Medical Network for Institutes that were directed to serve the community under the supervision of the World Health Organization and combined with more than 300 organizations and institutes in the World. Prof. Dr.\ Zohair Noaman (May his soul rest in peace) was chosen to be the president of the network (from 1983 to 1985), and Prof. Dr. Essmat Ezzat (May her soul rest in peace) general secretary of the network (from 1997 till 2000).


The faculty established the center of Medical education development in 1986. The unit joined to be a cooperator center with World Health Organization in 1988 (The only center in Egypt cooperating with World Health Organization in the medical education field). The center was re-assigned several times lately and finally in 2005-2009.
The faculty created a Clinical Epidemical unit in 1988 to develop scientific research that combines a number of academic staff members in the scientific research and based medicine field.


University Hospital was founded in 1993, including 427 beds, 146 surgical beds, and organs transfer. The hospital includes 19 surgery rooms. 6000 surgeries were done per year during the last five years.


The medical education department was founded in 2000 to prepare cadres in the medical education field. It is the first medical education department in all Medicine faculties in Egypt. In 2003 first Critical cases department was founded.


In 2001, the faculty of Medicine at Suez Canal University was the first faculty among Egyptian faculties who receives an accreditation certificate from the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education. The faculty's accreditation was renewed in 2015.

The Faculty of Medicine – Suez Canal University is a leading institute in medical education in Egypt and its surroundings. The faculty is known for its special programs in Bachelor’s and postgraduate studies degrees. It is considered one of the faculties that attract international students. Moreover, the faculty is a pioneer in distinctive scientific research that contributes to promoting the community according to national preferences.

Mission

The Faculty of Medicine – Suez Canal University aspires to prepare qualified doctors skilled with self-education and scientific research efficiency to meet members' and society’s medical needs nationally and internationally. The faculty adopts a scientific research approach that is morally committed, directed, and based on a method tracking scientific-global progress. The faculty contributes to providing high-quality medical service at a low cost to society parties.

  • To provide educational programs even for undergraduates or postgraduates stages.
  • To graduate efficient doctors able to provide medical care on all levels concentrating on primary health care.
  • To link medical education with community health needs and the latest scientific developments in the medical field.
  • To cooperate with the Ministry of Health and other medical serving parties to implement an integrated system for medical care that develops human resources in Suez Canal and Sinai region and notice that available sources might be available in the future.
  • To provide high medical services at a low cost at all levels the first, second, or third specialized level.
  • To offer continuous medical education programs for human resources in the medical field.
  • To conduct community research directed to the latest global scientific developments.
  • To cooperate with community institutes to spread medical culture and awareness among community members.
